When your adult children step up to the plate to care for you…

And hit home runs.⠀

Wednesday was surgery day on my right eye.

Although Dave so wanted to be by my side, his contending for his life with cancer struggles made that really impossible.⠀

Can I peak open my journal for you?⠀

At the office I needed help right off. Because I was at the point of not seeing small print, Anna filled out paper work the morning of the surgery.

I was sitting there waiting for the nurses to call my name.⠀I got quite nostalgic. Even to the point of missing Anna who just dropped me off.⠀

Let’s just say a lot was on my mind.⠀

Dave. Cancer. Emotions.⠀

And going into unknowing of eye surgery.⠀They called my name and I went thru the pre-surgery motion. What a trip as the nurses poked and prodded me.

When the nurse stuck my wrist for the anesthesia and said this will be the most pain I’d feel, I was rather relieved.

After vitals and getting port for anesthesia, the nurses wheeled me into the surgery room on a bed.

I was freezing but they gave me a warm blanket.  I wondered how I was going to survive this freezing feeling I had.

As I lay in my little curtain cubby hole, I remember seeing the anesthesiologist do something to my left, then saying hello to my great doctor and then….⠀

A nurse was in my face waking me up.

I said I’m ready for surgery.⠀She said..”he already operated!”⠀

Funny, talk about painless.⠀I think I came in there so tired that it would not take much to knock me out.⠀

So the rest of the day I hung out at my adult kid’s place. We all crashed and took a nap.

They took such good care of me. Quite a change to be waited on as I’ve been at Dave’s call for care for quite some time.the journey to see

William was constantly making sure I have water and Anna putting drops in my eyes.⠀Under their care in their tiny house, I truly felt like I was in a cocoon of MY FATHER’S house with my adult kids administering the grace, kindness and love I needed.

The next day Anna took me to post op appointment….which went great and then had to drive quite a ways to get me home because she had to go to work in Atlanta.⠀

When I got back to basement where we live, I rested in a dark room while waiting for Dave to return from hospital where he was being drained 8.3 liters of liquid in his stomach.

Hours later as hee rests next to me…snoring ever so lightly…my heart is filled with awe.⠀

First in how much better I can see with resplendence of Spring out my door here.⠀And I stand in glorious wonder how people like you have prayed and $upported this gift of eyesight.

⠀May 11 will be the left eye.⠀Hey…I see you. You are beautiful…!

Theresa

PS Thank you for continuing to pray for Dave. He has regular trips now to the hospital to drain the liquid in his stomach. It’s another kind of journey. So much help from family. We are grateful and hopeful.
