Just a thought the Lord brought to me one hot day when I was doing anything but what I wanted at the moment and thought this: Do you have a Jesse in your life.
You know Jesse, like the father of David, who overlooked him at a crucial time in the history of Israel.
When the moment for Samuel to come to town to follow God’s word in anointing the next King, Samuel invited the house of Jesse. He asked Jesse to bring out all his sons and line them up.
(Social Media my translation).
So Jesse brought out his first son. The first son? Samuel thought for sure the Lord would say yes. He was killing it on Instagram with thousands of followers and the same on Facebook.
But the Lord said “no”.
Samuel went down the line of all of Jesse’s sons and no matter how awesome they seemed, with social media action, the Lord said “no” and brought this truth:
“When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Then Samuel turns to Jesse and says, do you have any other sons?
In line with my social media slant, I can just hear Jesse think, “David? He’s just out there…maybe with a few followers on YouTube. But he is just not really doing much and besides that he is smelly from tending the sheep.”
And you know the rest of the story.

Samuel anoints David!
You may feel overlooked and left out with the sheep. Things can be smelly and messy dealing with those sheep (kids home from summer school?) You may have lonely nights wondering if God really did give you that vision, that talent.
Look at David. He remained intentional with his assignment at the time. He did not feel overlooked but learned to worship and sing to the Lord. And then when the time came to him be anointed to be the next king, what did he do? He went back out to work to tend the sheep.
I hope you can relate to this and find great comfort that God sees you right now and knows the perfect timing to release you fully into your destiny.
You may be the David. You are anointed. You have a EXTRAordinary solution for other’s pain points.
But, You may feel overlooked by the Jesse’s in your life or the circumstance at hand. You are anointed and ready for the pieces of the puzzle to your destiny be put together.
Use this time, like David, craft some songs, write in your journal, learn a new skill, invest in you.

It’s interesting to note that Jesse did call David two more times after this event. One to come in off the fields to play the harp for Saul and the other to go to the war front to check on his brothers. You know the rest of the story…or go read it again!
Forget the Jesse’s in your life and look to the Lord.
Every day you can be faithful with what you have and set your face on the Lord.
He is faithful. Check this reminder:
A man’s gift makes room for him,
And brings him before great men.
Proverbs 18:16
